Stinger Athletics - Who we Are
Baseball:
The Florence-Darlington Tech
baseball program was started in 2005. The Stingers compete in Division 1 Region
X. They have won the Region X Regular Season Championship three times in those
thirteen years, 2006, 2012, and 2017.
The 2012 team broke the school
record for wins in a season (44) and was ranked for the first time in school
history, reaching as high as #7 in the nation. The 2015 team is the highest
ranked team in school history, reaching as high as #4 in the nation. In 2017,
the Stingers won the Eastern District Tournament and competed in the JUCO World
Series in Grand Junction, CO finishing in 7th place in the nation. The Stingers
have been nationally ranked in four of the past six years.
Baseball America has called FDTC
“an up-and-coming JUCO powerhouse”. The Stingers have had 11 former players
selected in the MLB Draft in the past 7 years. They’ve also had several other
players go onto play Division 1 baseball at South Carolina, Clemson, North
Carolina, Georgia, Ole Miss, and many others.
Softball:
The Florence-Darlington Technical
College Softball program started in 2006, in Region X of the NJCAA (National
Junior College Athletic Association). Over the years the Tech Ladies have
placed FDTC on the national softball map with a .656 winning
percentage. The Lady Stingers achieved their first national prominence
recognition in 2013, with a ranking of #14 and set a Region X record of 18 wins
and 2 losses.
The
Lady Stingers have finished in the top three spots in Region X since 2013 and
have been nationally ranked for four of last five seasons. 2016 became Tech’s
record breaking season and its first trip to the NJCAA World Series, with a
national ranking of #12 and a 17 win 1 loss season in Region X, which re-set
the old record.
Following
the outstanding 2016 campaign, Tech began 2017 ranked #16 and stepped up the
national poll to NJCAA #10. The softball program has become a top ranked
program in Region X and continues to grow in recognition by the NJCAA.
