2013 Season Wrap-Up

Faculty and Staff, you will proud of the many accomplishments of our student athletes this year.

The baseball and softball seasons have ended and the Stingers completed another successful season both on and off the field.

These student athletes collectively have the highest GPA of any group of athletes in the history of our athletic program with a 93% successful completion rate for Softball and 81% for Baseball. These outstanding student athletes demonstrated excellence in the classroom and they stepped up to serve as great role models in our community. They coordinated an exceptional Christmas celebration putting smiles on the faces of a group of children from an area children's home in Turbeville and they have participated in many other community service activities. Additionally, they serve as student ambassadors at many of our college events. In other words, they made us look good!

The Lady Stingers had a breakout season this year with an overall record of 32 wins and 10 losses. They finished with a national ranking of #14 and a first place finish in the NJCAA Region X Regular Season. Two members of the team were awarded the region's highest honors, Morgan Farmer received Pitcher of the Year, and Kayla Wright received Player of the Year; both were selected as nominees for NJCAA All American status.

The FDTC Baseball team finished the year 30-27 overall. They completed the regular season in 3rd place in Region X. They came one (1) win short in the Region X Tournament of making it to the Eastern Districts. Gunnar Kines, Team MVP, was selected 1st team All-Region Pitcher and was the Region X Pitcher of the Year. Stephen Dowling was selected 2nd team All-Region Outfielder. Clay Keranen was selected All-Defensive Team shortstop in Region X. The following players have made verbal commitments to play baseball next year at four year colleges: Gunnar Kines- Mt. Olive, Stephen Dowling- USC-Upstate, Tyler Barwick- USC-Beaufort, Aaron Bishop- USC-Beaufort, Jared Cheek- University of Georgia, Gabe Craven- USC-Beaufort, Clay Keranen- Liberty, Tresco Shannon- USC-Upstate, Thomas Spencer- Coker College, and Josh Tant- College of Charleston.

Congratulations and thank you to both teams on a great season!
