PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Tradd Burton's 3-run blast in extras leads Florence-Darlington Tech (8) to a 5-1 victory over Northwest Florida State College (20).
JC Gamble hit into a fielder's choice to tie the game at one apiece in the top of the 6th inning. Then, Gabe Herold took the lead for the Stingers in the top of the 8th inning, adding to the tally with an RBI single. Burton's strike extended the lead with a monster 3-run home run in the top of the inning, giving the Stingers a comfortable lead heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Bryson Harper secured the victory with a clean final inning and earned the save.
This preseason top 20 matchup was driven by a dominant pitching performance from the Stingers' staff.
On the mound, the Stingers' pitching staff delivered a solid performance, allowing only one run on six hits.
Tony Shannon secured the win with two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh innings to send it to extras. Cooper Coleman started on the mound for the Stingers, going three perfect innings. Elvin Pascual, Bryson Harper, and Shannon combined to hold Northwest Florida to a single run in relief.
The victory brings the Stinger's to 3-2 on the season.
