Stingers Hand Gaston First Loss of the Season in 5-2 Victory

GASTONIA, N.C. — Jake Zehner delivered at the plate and in the field, homering and robbing a home run to lead Florence-Darlington Technical College to a 5-2 win over Gaston College at Sims Legion Park.
Zehner put FDTC on the board with a solo home run in the first inning and added a two-out RBI single in the sixth to stretch the lead. Tristan Strickland broke a 2-2 tie with a go-ahead solo shot in the seventh, and Kevin Bruno followed with a two-RBI single later in the inning to provide insurance. The Stingers finished with seven hits, including a double from Pat Costin.
In the field, Zehner preserved momentum with a highlight-reel catch in center field, taking a home run away from Gaston. On the mound, Sanders turned in a strong start, allowing just two hits and two earned runs over six innings while striking out seven to earn the win. Cooper Coleman closed the door with a scoreless seventh inning to record his first save. The Stingers improved their record to 1-1 in regional play with the victory.
