Background:
"Good evening, my name is Diego García. I'm 20 years old and currently live in South Carolina. I began playing baseball at the age of four, and my grandfather was the one who first taught me the game. Over the years, I continued to develop, and at 14, I was selected to represent the Puerto Rico National Team. At 15, I competed in my first international tournament, which was an unforgettable experience. I was honored to be named Defensive Player of the Tournament—an achievement that will stay with me for life."
Future Aspirations:
"My next steps are to continue working hard and pursuing opportunities in organized baseball. I am committed to playing at High Point University next year. My ultimate goal isn't just to try—it's to succeed and one day play in a Major League Baseball stadium."
What led you to Florence-Darlington Technical College:
"That's a very interesting question. Before coming to Florence-Darlington Technical College, I didn't have much knowledge of the institution. During my junior and senior years of high school, I was in communication with several Division I programs, including Arizona State. However, things didn't go as planned, and I had to make a change in representation. After returning to the Puerto Rico National Team at 18, I connected with Coach Pmac for the first time. One of the main reasons I chose FDTC was the opportunity to be part of a winning program."
Experience so far at FDTC:
"My experience here has been very special. I've grown not only as an athlete, but also as a person. Over the past two years, I've met many people who have become very important in my life, and that's something I will always be grateful for."
Biggest challenges and resources that helped you succeed:
"One of the biggest challenges I've faced as a student-athlete has been the language barrier, as English is my second language.
I believe everyone experiences moments where they feel like they're not enough or have hit rock bottom, and sometimes it feels easier to give up. I won't deny that I've had those thoughts before. But those are the moments when you have to stay grounded and remember the people who support you unconditionally—not for what you can give them, but for who you are."
