FLORENCE, S.C. — Despite a solo home run from Hayleigh Atkinson, Florence-Darlington Technical College dropped an 11–3 decision to Georgia Military College.
The Stingers were limited offensively, recording three hits on the afternoon. Atkinson accounted for one of the team's three runs with her solo shot, while Olivia Goforth and Payton Melinauskas each reached base to generate additional runs. However, Florence-Darlington Tech was unable to string together sustained offense against Georgia Military's pitching staff.
In the circle, Keira Bell went the distance, facing 40 batters over seven innings. She allowed 14 hits and 11 runs, eight of which were earned, while working through constant pressure from the Bulldogs' lineup. The Stingers' defense was also challenged, committing two errors that extended innings and added to the strain.
Florence-Darlington Tech will look to regroup and tighten execution on both sides of the ball in its upcoming contests.
