FLORENCE, S.C. — Olivia Goforth went 3-for-4 at the plate, but Florence-Darlington Technical College came up short in a 10–5 loss to Gaston College on Wednesday.
Florence-Darlington struck first with a two-run opening inning, but Gaston responded quickly, taking control of the game with a four-run fourth inning and steadily building its lead from there. The Lady Stingers added two late runs in the seventh, but the rally was not enough to overcome the deficit. Goforth paced the offense with three hits in four at-bats and scored twice as part of a nine-hit effort for FDTC. Payton Melinauskas contributed offensively with a hit, a run scored, and two RBIs, while also executing two sacrifice plays to advance runners. Hayleigh Atkinson added a strong performance at the plate, driving in three runs, including a double.
In the circle, Keira Bell pitched a complete game, facing 32 batters and allowing 13 hits and 10 runs while recording three strikeouts. Florence-Darlington will look to regroup following the setback as they move forward to USC Sumter for their final regualar season doubleheader.
